Switchable glass, also known as smart glass, is an innovative type of electro-optical glass that offers a range of benefits for building decoration. It consists of two layers of glass with a polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) film and a conductive interlayer sandwiched in between. The layers are bonded together at high temperatures and pressures to create a durable and reliable product.
One of the key advantages of switchable glass is its ability to function as an electronic curtain. By simply turning the current on and off, users can control the transparency of the glass. When the power is off, the liquid crystal molecules are randomly dispersed, making it impossible for light to penetrate and creating an opaque appearance. However, when the power is switched on, the molecules align, causing the glass to become transparent.
This makes switchable glass ideal for applications where privacy and light control are important considerations, such as conference rooms, hotels, hospitals, and residential properties.
