4000 series aluminum alloys are mainly alloyed with silicone (silicone content is between 4.5-6%). Only alloys with additions of Cu, Mg and Ni can be strengthened by heat treatment. Due to the high silicone content, this alloy is mainly used for the manufacture of additive materials for aluminum alloy welding, like brazing plate, electrode and welding wire and so on. Besides, these alloys are also applied to manufacture heat-resistant parts and automotive pistons because of its excellent wear resistance and high-temperature performance. The alloy with 5% silicone is black-gray after anodizing and coloring, making it ideal for building materials and decorative parts.
