Water Cascade Retort
Cascade retort is equipped with a heat exchanger for heating and cooling, thus preventing products from being contaminated by steam and cooling water while also eliminating the need for water treatment chemicals. The process water flows from top to bottom in a uniform manner via the large-flow water pump and metal plate in the top of the retort. Accurate temperature and pressure control make this sterilization retort perfect for sterilizing food and beverages packaged in various containers.

- The temperature control module developed by DTS allows for up to 12 stages of temperature control. The heating mode is available in step or linearity to accommodate the specific formulations of different products. Thus, the repeatability and stability between batches of products are well ensured, with a temperature accuracy within ±0.5℃.
- Precise pressure control, suitable for different package types
- The pressure control module developed by DTS continuously changes the pressure during the entire process to adapt to the pressure variations inside the package. This minimizes the deformation of the package, no matter whether it is rigid container of aluminum/tin cans, or plastic bottles/boxes, or flexible pouches. The pressure accuracy is within ±0.05bar.
- Highly clean product package
- Heat exchanger is applied for indirect heating and cooling, thus avoiding secondary contamination caused by the steam and cooling water since they do not in contact with the process water. Besides, water treatment chemicals such as chlorine are no longer required, and the service life of the heat exchanger can also be considerably extended.
- Energy saving and eco-friendly
- A small amount of process water is used for circulation, enabling the sterilizing temperature to be reached quickly.
Low noise offers a silent and comfortable working environment.
In contrast to direct steam sterilization, there is no need for emptying air from the retort prior to heating, resulting in significant steam savings of 30%.

First, send the product into the sterilization retort in a basket and then close the door, which is secured by a triple safety interlock. The whole sterilization process is then automated and controlled by PLC.
Next, inject process water into the resort. The water can be pre-heated for sterilizing hot-filling products.
Then, switch on the circulation pump to make the process water repeatedly circulated and sprayed through the nozzles and the tubes, so as to ensure the whole retort is uniformly heated.
The tubular heat exchanger in the retort allows the process water to flow in one side, and the steam in the other, so that germ-free sterilization can be achieved as the product won’t come directly into contact with the steam. The pressure inside the sterilization retort is set by program-controlled automatic valves that allow compressed air flowing into or out of the resort. Since the technique adopted is water spray sterilization, the pressure can be freely adjusted according to the package of sterilized product, and will not be affected by temperature. This would make the sterilization equipment more widely applicable in three-piece cans, two-piece cans, flexible packaging bags, glass bottles, plastic packaging, etc.
Finally, wait for the alarm signal for completing the sterilization. And the door can then be opened and the product can be unloaded, after which the equipment is ready to sterilize the next batch of products.
The temperature distribution inside the retort has a uniformity of /- 0.5℃. The pressure is controlled at 0.05 bar.
