Firstly, Surface Set Diamond Bits are regularly used for drilling relatively soft, abrasive, unconsolidated formations which usually can not be drilled by impregnated diamond bits effectively.Secondly, drilling for harder formations is also possible when the available rotational speed and bit loads are insufficient for utilizing impregnated diamond bits.
