Propiconazole
1. Propiconazole is a triazole fungicide, also known as a DMI, or demethylation inhibiting fungicide due to its binding with and inhibiting the 14-alpha demethylase enzyme from demethylating a precursor to ergosterol. Without this demethylation step, ergosterols are not incorporated into the growing fungal cell membranes, and cellular growth is stopped.
2. This product is used agriculturally on turfgrasses, mushrooms, corn, wild rice, peanuts, almonds, sorghum, oats, pecans, apricots, peaches, nectarines, plums and prunes.
3. Propiconazole is a mixture of four stereoisomers. It was first developed in 1979 by Janssen Pharmaceutica.
Uses
1. Propiconazole is a systemic foliar fungicide with a broad range of activity at 100-150g/ha.
2. On cereals, it controls diseases caused by Cochliobolus sativus, Erysiphe graminis, Leptosphaeria nodorum, Puccinia spp., Pyrenophora teres, Pyrenophora tritici-repentis, Rhynchosporium secalis, and Septoria spp.
3. In bananas, it serves to control Mycosphaerella musicola and Mycosphaerella fijiensis var. difformis.
4. In turf, this product is effective against Sclerotinia homoeocarpa, Rhizoctonia solani, Puccinia spp. and Erysiphe graminis.
5. In rice against Rhizoctonia solani, Helminthosporium oryzae, and dirty panicle complex
6. In coffee against Hemileia vastatrix
7. In peanuts against Cercospora spp.
8. In stone fruit against Monilinia spp., Podosphaera spp., Sphaerotheca spp. and Tranzschelia spp.
9. In maize against Helminthosporium spp.
