Sheet Molding Compound (SMC)
The SMC, short for sheet molding compound or sheet molding composite, is a ready to mould glass fiber reinforced polyester material manufactured through compression molding of long strands of chopped glass fiber, impregnated with unsaturated polyester resin. It is featured by outstanding electrical property and machining property as well as notable fire and tracking resistance and hydrophobicity.
The composite material is suitable for use in dirty, humid, cold and other harsh environments. Typical applications include demanding electrical applications, corrosion resistant needs and structural components. For example, the sheet molding mould can be used to make backboard and insulation parts for switch cabinets and electrical equipment.
