Carbon Monoxide (CO)
Carbon monoxide is a compound of carbon and oxygen, typically a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas under standard conditions. Physically, it has a melting point of -205°C and a boiling point of -191.5°C. It is poorly soluble in water (0.002838g at 20°C) and difficult to liquefy and solidify. Chemically, Carbon monoxide exhibits both reducing and oxidizing properties, capable of oxidation reactions (combustion), disproportionation reactions, and more. It is primarily used in the production of methanol (CH3OH), phosgene, and for various organic synthesis processes.
