Meteorological tower for the measurement of wind speed and wind direction, available in height options from 5 to 200 meters

Wind measurement towers, also known as MET masts, are tall structures used to collect wind resource data for meteorological studies and wind farm site assessment. They support instruments that measure wind speed, wind direction, pressure, humidity, and other environmental parameters.

  • Design Standard ANSI/TIA-222-G/H/F, EN 1991-1-4 & EN 1993-3-1
  • Height Range 5–200M, as per customer's requirement
  • Design Wind Speed 0 km/h – 300 km/h, as per customer's requirement (different in different regions)
  • Surface Treatment Hot-dip galvanized; Painting
Structural Design
  • Main Structure
The tower consists of the base, tower leg, horizontal braces, diagonal braces, anemometer brackets, and a lightning rod. Guy wires are used for guyed towers, while self-supporting towers don't require them.
  • Monitoring Equipment
The mast can support a range of meteorological instruments, including cup anemometers or ultrasonic anemometers, wind vanes, thermometers, and barometers. Data is stored through an integrated data logger.
  • Height Range
The wind measurement tower heights range from 10 to 150 meters, with many domestic projects adopting standard 100-meter masts.
  • Safety Monitoring
Some MET masts include integrated lightning protection. The grounding resistance is ≤4 Ω, and the structure can be designed to meet seismic intensity level 8.

Installation Locations
Wind measurement towers are typically installed 1–8 kilometers outside the planned wind farm area. The site must avoid regions affected by wake turbulence from existing or future turbines. Locations positioned upwind of the prevailing wind direction are preferred. Higher-elevation sites with clear visibility and no surrounding obstructions help ensure accurate and representative wind data.

Features

Comprehensive data collection
Capable of real-time monitoring of wind speed, wind direction, temperature, humidity, and air pressure. The sampling interval is ≤3 seconds, and the system provides high-accuracy data recording.

Strong wind and seismic resistance
Designed to meet seismic intensity level 8 and operate under 5–10 mm ice thickness. The wind measurement tower supports long-term field deployment with a service life of up to 35 years, suitable for complex environmental conditions.

Easy installation
The guyed design requires minimal foundation work and allows rapid deployment. Its self-supporting design requires a stronger foundation but offers higher structural stability.

Flexible signal transmission
Supports both fiber-optic and wireless communication options, allowing the transmission method to be selected based on project requirements.

Project Application Examples
Manufacturing Process

Laser Cutting
Laser cutting is used to shape the steel components through focused beam cutting and assisted gas removal. The process offers fast cutting speed and high dimensional accuracy (up to ±0.05 mm), while keeping heat impact to a minimum. This reduces the risk of deformation and results in clean, well-defined edges.

CNC Punching and Shearing
Steel angles are processed through CNC-controlled punching and shearing lines. Automatic feeding, positioning, punching, and cutting are all integrated into the process, keeping production running smoothly and efficiently. Precise CNC positioning keeps quality consistent, even when working with more complex parts.

Hot-Dip Galvanizing and Surface Protection
The tower is protected with hot-dip galvanizing as the main anti-corrosion treatment, along with an extra plastic coating for added protection. The zinc layer protects the steel from rust and adds strength, while the coating gives extra insulation and surface protection. This combined treatment allows the tower to maintain reliable performance for over 20 years and adapt well to harsh environments such as high and low temperatures, coastal areas, and mountainous regions.
