Plain catgut sutures are natural absorbable surgical sutures made from purified connective tissue derived from sheep or bovine intestines. Commonly used in urology and gastrointestinal surgery, they are absorbed by the body’s enzymes within 70 days. RTMED, located in Shandong, China where 90% of the world's catgut sutures are produced, operates the largest catgut manufacturing facility in Asia. Our catgut sutures have a high gloss, with no oil spots or white marks, and a uniform thickness. The diameter is precisely controlled within a variance of 1-2 threads. The tensile strength of our sutures exceeds EU standards by an average of 50%. With a polishing process that can produce sutures up to 6 meters long, our products boast high polishing efficiency. Our patented coating technology further enhances the sutures' performance, resulting in minimal tissue reaction.

Applications

Plain catgut sutures are commonly used for general soft tissue closure and ligation, particularly in general surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, urology, pediatric surgery, gynecology, and ophthalmology. However, they are not suitable for use in cardiovascular and neurological surgeries.
