Hot rolled pickled and oiled steel coils (HRPO) are produced by processing hot rolled steel coils through a series of operations, including acid pickling, oil coating, and packaging. This material serves dual purposes: it can act as an intermediate product for cold rolling or be sold directly for immediate use. The production process includes critical steps such as tension leveling, turbulent pickling, online flattening, edge trimming, and oil coating. HRPO steel is particularly suitable for applications requiring moderate surface quality and higher thickness tolerances. Recent improvements in hot rolling technology have enabled the production of thinner sheets with better surface quality. This development allows HRPO steel to replace certain hot rolled and cold rolled coils in specific applications. Its competitive pricing and reliable performance make it a cost-effective alternative for many industries.

Features

Advantages Over Hot Rolled Steel

  • The pickling process removes surface impurities, significantly improving the steel’s surface quality, which simplifies welding, oiling, and painting.
  • Dimensional accuracy is enhanced through flattening, minimizing deviations and ensuring a more consistent final product.
  • The smoother finish elevates the product’s appearance, making it ideal for applications where aesthetics matter.
  • Centralized pickling reduces environmental pollution, offering a more sustainable solution compared to decentralized methods.

Advantages Over Cold Rolled Steel
While maintaining adequate surface quality for most applications, HRPO steel reduces procurement costs, offering a more economical solution without compromising performance for certain applications.

Pickled and oiled steel is used by a wide range of customers, including:

  • Home appliance manufacturers
  • Electronics companies
  • Automotive manufacturers
  • Auto parts suppliers
  • Metal product companies
  • Pipe and container manufacturers
  • Product distributors

A continuous hydrochloric acid turbulent flow pickling process is used, with a concentration of 12–18% and a temperature range of 70–85°C. This process results in a residual iron content of ≤30 mg/m² and allows for adjustable roughness (Ra 0.8–2.5 μm).

The thermal conductivity of pickled steel for automotive battery trays is measured at 50–60 W/(m·K) for bare SPHC/DC01 low carbon steel sheets.
