The alternating current is rectified through a rectifier and then charged to the capacitor. The stored energy is converted into a low voltage, capacity-concentrated current through a transformer. The capacitor discharge spot welder uses the current to fuse the metal using the resistance generated at the interface of the welding workpiece. It can be used in some places without enough power supply.

Thanks to the large welding current and short welding time, the capacitor discharge spot welder is typically used for the welding of toys, stainless steel pots and kitchen ware.
