The anhydrous calcium chloride appears in the forms of white or grayish granule, flake, ball or powder, odorless, with slightly bitter taste and slight toxicity. It is extremely hygroscopic, deliquescing very easily in the air. The calcium chloride anhydrous is soluble in water, releasing a lot of heat in the course of dissolution (enthalpy of solution: -176.2cal / g), resulting in slightly alkaline aqueous solution. It is also soluble in alcohol, acetone, and acetic acid.
The reaction between calcium chloride and ammonia (or ethanol) generates CaCl2 ? 8NH3 and CaCl2 ? 4C2H5OH complexes. Calcium chloride solution crystallizes and separates hexahydrate at low temperatures. When gradually heated to 30 ℃, the calcium chloride is dissolved in its own crystal water. If heating continues, the solution will gradually lose water and till 200 ℃, it will turn into dihydrate. If heated to 260 ℃, then the calcium chloride anhydrous becomes white porous anhydrous calcium chloride.

5. Usage
The calcium chloride anhydrous can be used for the following purposes:
a) as oilfield chemicals to serve as oil drilling mud, drilling fluid, completion fluid;
b) as deicer for roads, highways, parking lots, airports, docks and other places in winter;
c) as dedusting agent for mines, unsurfaced road, and coal mines;
d) as multi-purpose drying agent; as dehydrating agent in the production of alcohol, ester, ether and acrylic resin;
e) the aqueous solution of calcium chloride is an important refrigerant for refrigerators and ice-making machines;
f) as antifreeze agent in building industry, to accelerate the hardening of concrete and improve the mortar's tolerance to cold;
g) as anti-fogging agent for port; dust collecting agent for road; and fire retardant for fabric;
h) used as a protective agent and refining agent for aluminum magnesium metallurgy; precipitant for lake pigment production; for waste paper deinking process; raw material for alcium materials production;
i) as chelating agent; curing agent;calcium supplement; microbicide; pickling agent; texture improving agents;
j) as roadbed stabilizer; cement additives used in the cement industry;
k) as calcium supplement for fertilizer;
l) as an additive in plastics and fire extinguishers; a filter aid in wastewater treatment; in a blast furnace, the calcium chloride anhydrous is an additive to control the aggregation and adhesion of materialsin order to avoid material settlement;diluent in the fabric softener.
6. Storage and Handling
The calcium chloride anhydrous should be store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. The container must be sealed to prevent moisture. Pile it separately from deliquescent goods.
