Paddle Mixer
Industrial horizontal mixer for blending dry powders and liquid additives
S&L paddle mixer, also called fluidized zone mixer, is an industrial mixer for blending dry powders and liquid additives. It consists of a horizontal cylindrical vessel, drive unit, and double shaft paddle, and can be equipped with a lump breaker. During operation, the two shafts with counter-rotating blades rotate to different sides, driving the paddle at different angles to circulate and flip the materials along the axial and radial directions. Under the effect of high linear speed, the materials are thrown up and fall down in a weightless (i.e., zero-gravity) state.
The materials are mixed uniformly by crossing each other during the throwing and falling process. The discharge outlet is available in both large and small door styles, with the large door style allowing for quick and residue-free discharge. This horizontal mixer features a wide application range, high mixing uniformity, and short mixing time.

Paddle agitator
S&L paddle mixer is a high-precision blending machine that can achieve excellent mixing results even when the materials have significant differences in density, particle size, and proportions. This is due to the rapid and intense tumbling and scattering of the materials by the interlaced paddle blades. According to practical tests, this machine can achieve a maximum coefficient of variation (CV value) of ≤3% for mixing uniformity.

Lump breaker
A lump breaker can be installed for intensive mixing and lump breaking. The lump breaker with triangular tooth guards maintains a high rotational speed of 1000 rpm or above, effectively crushing and disaggregating the agglomerated materials in the weightless zone.

Discharge valve
Generally a pneumatic flipper valve is adopted. The circular arc valve is tightly embedded in the cylinder, flush with the inner wall of the cylinder, and free from the phenomena of material accumulation and dead corners for mixing. The reliable edge strip-type sealing ensures no leakage during frequent opening and closing.

Two-piece blades
To reduce the cost of replacing vulnerable parts, the paddle blades can be made in a two-piece design. A movable small blade is placed on the blade base, allowing for direct replacement of worn-out small blades. This approach is economical and efficient.

Inline gearbox
For large-scale mixers with a capacity of over 6 cubic meters, an inline gearbox is used to increase torque and reduce maintenance rates, effectively addressing some of the previous drawbacks.

Mixer with Retractable Rotor
The retractable rotor mixer has been developed to meet the needs of specific applications and industries. In cases where manual or CIP cleaning cannot thoroughly remove any materials that may have become stuck to mixing elements or in hard-to-reach areas, the shaft can be completely retracted for further cleaning. This design enables customers to entirely solve the problem of cleaning viscous materials and performing maintenance tasks in the future. The unique design reduces downtime for cleaning and minimizes the potential for cross contamination. An easy to access mixing chamber ensures a hygienic mixing environment.
Working Principle
The retractable rotor mixer is equipped with a quick clamp structure between the end plate and end flange of the vessel body. The shaft can be conveniently and quickly opened away from the vessel. The input shaft connects to the reducer and is held in place by the reducer bearing, while the other side of the shaft is positioned by two bearings. The rail guide ensures that the shaft can be fully opened and driven by a motor or manually operated. However, a PLC control system is required to operate the machine, and a position sensor is needed to ensure that the shaft stops at the same position if it needs to be pulled open.
CIP
S&L paddle mixers are able to achieve optimal performance for hygienic production by implementing a Clean-in-Place (CIP) system. This feature can be added to all of our horizontal mixers. CIP is an efficient cleaning process that requires some manual preparation steps, such as installing a washing device. Once installed, the system performs a complete cleaning in fully automatic mode through PLC technology. Drying with air is necessary after wet cleaning. With no cross-contamination between batches, you can be assured of the quality of your finished products.
- S&L paddle mixer has a super large maintenance door that facilitates maintenance.
- The large maintenance door has a small observation window, which allows for real-time monitoring of the mixing equipment's operation.
- This mixer can realize large batch process with high mixing output.
- Continuous blending or batch blending method: Batch processing allows for traceability.
- Batch size: It is important to find the right balance, as an excessively large batch may result in uneven mixing.
- Mixing time: Shorter mixing times lead to lower processing costs and reduced degradation of sensitive materials. However, a balance must be struck between mixing uniformity and cycle time.
- Power consumption: Energy efficiency is crucial. S&L has extensive experience in designing energy-efficient mixing and blending systems.
- Easy discharge: Discharge capability is one of the key functionalities of batch mixers. It is essential to ensure complete discharge of the blended material without any residual.
- Easy cleaning: Proper cleaning is vital to an equipment for mixing and blending different materials. S&L industrial mixers & blenders are integrated with CIP (Clean-in-Place) systems for easy cleaning.
